Everything you need to know about Singapore as a Disney Cruise port, including attractions, transportation, and family-friendly tips for an amazing stopover.

Everything you need to know about Singapore as a port stop on the Disney Adventure — from where to stay, what to see, how to eat safely, and how to make the most of every hour.

Singapore is unlike any other Disney Cruise port stop. It is a world-class city-state that could easily fill a week on its own — but with the right plan, even a short pre- or post-cruise stay can leave your family completely floored. Whether you are spending one night or three, this guide will help you make the most of every hour.

What to Expect: Weather and Packing

Singapore sits just 1 degree north of the equator, which means one thing: it is hot and humid year-round. Average temperatures hover around 86°F (30°C), and the humidity rarely dips below 75%. Rain is common at any time of year, usually arriving as short, intense downpours rather than all-day drizzle.

Pack light, breathable clothing, comfortable walking shoes, and a packable rain jacket or small umbrella. The indoor attractions, including the domes at Gardens by the Bay and Jewel Changi Airport, are heavily air-conditioned, so a light layer is worth having. Sunscreen is a must for any outdoor time even though you'll find most areas have coverings.

Where to Stay: Disney Cruise Partner Hotels

Disney Cruise Line partners with three hotels in Singapore, each offering a distinct experience. Here is a breakdown to help you decide which is the right fit for your family.

1. Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa

Best for: Families who want a resort feel and easy access to Sentosa Island attractions. This is also the most inexpensive option.

The Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa is Singapore's only beachfront resort hotel, situated on Sentosa Island. It offers multiple pools, direct beach access, a splash pad and multiple waterslides along with a relaxed, self-contained atmosphere that is ideal for families with younger children who want to slow down after a long flight. They also have packages where you can get breakfast included that consists of the widest range of foods imaginable of all cuisines, so even the pickiest of eaters will find something they enjoy. Sentosa is also home to Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium, and a range of family attractions — all within easy reach. The tradeoff is that it is a taxi or MRT ride from the main city sights, so factor that into your planning if you want to explore downtown.

2. Marina Bay Sands

Best for: Families who want to be in the center of everything and do not mind a splurge.

Few hotels in the world have the instant-recognition factor of Marina Bay Sands. The iconic three-tower resort with its rooftop SkyPark and infinity pool is one of Singapore's most photographed landmarks. Staying here puts you within walking distance of Gardens by the Bay, the ArtScience Museum, and the waterfront promenade. It is a premium price point, but the location is unmatched. The hotel's free nightly light and water show, Spectra, takes place right outside which means if you are staying here, you can watch it from the waterfront steps and then walk straight back to your room.

3. Raffles Singapore

Best for: Adults and families looking for a bucket-list heritage experience in a legendary property.

Raffles Singapore is one of the most storied hotels in the world, open since 1887 and recently restored to its full colonial grandeur. It is a heritage landmark in its own right, famous for its Long Bar and the birth of the Singapore Sling cocktail. The location in the heart of the colonial district puts you close to the Esplanade, the waterfront, and excellent dining. This is a more grown-up choice, best suited to families with older children or couples looking for a once-in-a-lifetime stay. Prices reflect the legacy. (As in, I wouldn't be bringing my four little kids here.)

Two Free Night Shows — and How to Catch Both

One of the best surprises Singapore has for visitors is that two of its most spectacular after-dark experiences are completely free. With smart timing, you can see both in the same evening.

Garden Rhapsody at Gardens by the Bay

Every night at 7:45 PM and 8:45 PM, the Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay come alive with a choreographed light and sound show called Garden Rhapsody. The 15-minute show is free, set at the outdoor Supertree Grove, and requires no ticket. Families spread out on the grass below the trees or find spots along the raised walkways. The show changes themes monthly — past editions have featured Star Wars, Disney songs, and classical opera. Arriving 20–30 minutes early to secure a good spot on the lawn is worth it, especially on weekends.

Spectra at Marina Bay Sands

A short walk or taxi ride from Gardens by the Bay, the Marina Bay Sands waterfront hosts Spectra — a free nightly light and water show at the Event Plaza. The 15-minute show combines synchronized fountain jets, laser projections, and an orchestral soundtrack against the backdrop of the Singapore skyline. It runs at 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM Sunday through Thursday, with an extra 10:00 PM show on Fridays and Saturdays. No ticket is required.

Best viewing spot: the Event Plaza steps directly outside The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. Read more: Spectra – Marina Bay Sands

The Smart Timing Trick

Here is how to catch both in one evening:

Option 1: Start with the waterfront promenade to Marina Bay Sands on the side next to the hotel (across from the Merlion.) You'll watch the 8:00 PM show and then make your way across the hotel and to the Gardens by the Bay for the 8:45 PM Garden Rhapsody show

Option 2: Most people head to Gardens by the Bay early and watch the 7:45 PM Garden Rhapsody show. When it ends, take a taxi or the short walk along the waterfront promenade to Marina Bay Sands and catch the 9:00 PM Spectra show. Both shows are free, both are under 20 minutes, and the walk between them along the bay at night is genuinely beautiful. Budget about 15 minutes of travel time between them.

Gardens by the Bay: Why the Paid Domes Are Worth It

The outdoor areas at Gardens by the Bay, including the Supertree Grove and waterfront are completely free. But if you have time, the two climate-controlled conservatories, the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest, are genuinely worth the extra cost.

Flower Dome

The Flower Dome is the world's largest glass greenhouse and maintains a cool, dry Mediterranean climate — a welcome escape from Singapore's heat and humidity. Inside you'll find plants from five continents, including ancient olive trees, Baobab trees from Africa, cacti, and rotating seasonal floral installations. It is spacious and well-paced for families.

Cloud Forest

The Cloud Forest is the showstopper. A 35-meter indoor waterfall greets you as you enter, and a mountain structure covered entirely in tropical plants rises through the center of the dome. Aerial walkways wind through cloud forest environments typically found at altitudes of 2,000 meters — complete with mist, orchids, pitcher plants, and ferns. The temperature inside is a refreshing 23°C. It is genuinely unlike anything else. Note: the Cloud Forest is currently hosting the Jurassic World: The Experience exhibit through mid-2026, adding life-sized animatronic dinosaurs throughout the dome.

A combined Flower Dome + Cloud Forest ticket for adults runs approximately S$46 (around US$34). Book ahead: Gardens by the Bay tickets

Pro tip: Visit the domes in the late afternoon, get dinner close by, then stay on for the free Garden Rhapsody show at 7:45 PM. You will already be there.

Jewel Changi Airport

Singapore's Changi Airport has been voted the world's best airport many times over, and Jewel Changi is a big reason why. Connected to Terminals 1, 2, and 3, Jewel is a nature-themed entertainment complex centered around the Rain Vortex- the world's tallest indoor waterfall, cascading 40 meters from the glass-and-steel dome ceiling.

Many travelers treat Singapore Changi Airport like it is a full day trip destination before a flight, but the reality is a bit different if you are staying in the public areas and not paying for attractions. Most of the famous things people talk about, like walking around Jewel Changi Airport and seeing the Rain Vortex, are impressive to look at but are fairly quick experiences. Beyond that, many of the activities that actually take time, such as Canopy Park or the Changi Experience Studio, require paid tickets.

If you are not paying for attractions, the airport mostly becomes a place to wander the mall, grab food, and take a few photos. That is why the "spend an entire day at Changi" idea can be a bit misleading unless you decide to take the bikes and leave (see below for more on that). Storing bags at Jewel is possible, but it can add up quickly.

There are cheaper luggage storage options in Singapore, including app based services around the city that can be $3 to $6 per bag, but they are generally not located right at the airport. That means you would need to plan ahead and store your luggage somewhere else in the city before heading to Changi later.

Once you go through immigration into the airside part of the airport there are many more things to see and do, but you will also have limited time before boarding, so it can still be difficult to turn the airport into the full day experience people sometimes expect.

The Hidden Gem: Free Bikes to Marina Bay Sands

One of Singapore's best-kept travel secrets, if you have a layover of at least 5.5 hours or arrive to the airport early on departure day, Changi Airport offers a complimentary 2-hour bicycle rental through its GoCycling outlet at Hub & Spoke, located beside Terminal 2. Foreign travelers can redeem the free rental by showing a valid boarding pass or itinerary via the Changi Playpass app. One of the suggested cycling routes goes all the way to Marina Bay- about 20 km each way along the East Coast Park Connector- and GoCycling has showers available at Hub & Spoke so you can freshen up when you return. It is an extraordinary thing to offer, and most travelers have no idea it exists. Having checked out the showers myself, all you need to know is that they do cost $5 for a shower and $4.5 for a disposable towel.

Navigating Food Allergies in Singapore

Singapore's food scene is extraordinary: hawker centers, Michelin-starred restaurants, and everything in between. But for families managing food allergies, it can also be challenging. Many traditional Singaporean dishes incorporate herbs, spices, and sauces that are not always listed, and communication around cross-contamination can be inconsistent at smaller street food stalls.

If you have specific dietary needs, coming prepared with an allergy card in Singapore's four official languages (English, Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil) is strongly recommended. This is something you can make with AI like Claude that you can put into different languages and save as a pdf to show restaurant staff wherever you go.

Reliable Options for Allergy-Conscious Families

The good news: Singapore has an abundance of international chain restaurants where ingredient lists are more standardized and staff are accustomed to handling allergy requests:

  • Shake Shack — multiple locations including Marina Bay Sands and Jewel Changi
  • Starbucks — throughout the city, including inside most tourist areas
  • McDonald's — widely available across Singapore
  • Subway — good for customizable, transparent ingredient choices

Many hotels catering to international guests, including Marina Bay Sands and Raffles, have kitchen teams experienced in handling complex allergy requests. Always notify your hotel or restaurant at the time of booking, not just upon arrival.
